Dynamic and challenging retail project located adjacent to the village center of the Verrado community in Buckeye, Arizona. Five unique buildings in a locally inspired modern and rustic design, all at varying elevations on a heavily graded site. triARC designed the site and shell buildings and collaborates with the owner and his retail tenants with primary uses to be restaurants and personal care.
The site is designed with pedestrian accessibility and community connection to the surrounding areas as a primary focus. Two plazas are located on the north side of the project and a pedestrian walkway is located along the east side adjacent to Village Street. The plazas also provide outdoor gathering areas for the retail uses.
The multi-faceted architecture design utilizes multiple exterior finish materials that pull from agrarian architecture and modern retail. These materials include brick, wood board and batten, corrugated metal and stone. Building footprints are typical retail geometry while roof lines vary between gable, shed and flat. Follies such as a steel tower reminiscent of a silo or water tower and an exposed steel structure at the north plaza further enhance the project.
